Honey Soy Chicken Wings

Honey Soy Chicken Wings

Honey soy chicken wings are my version of the classic Cantonese soy chicken wings. This dish uses ingredients that you’ll likely already have at home, making it very simple to make. You could buy pre-made, packaged chicken marinade from your local Chinese supermarket, however, I personally prefer making the marinade from scratch.

How to make these honey soy chicken wings:

Honey soy chicken wings require a simple, basic marinade of minced garlic, brown sugar, light and dark soy sauce, and finally sesame oil.  Let it marinate for at least an hour. The chicken can either be cooked in a saucepan for 10 minutes or on a baking tray for 15-20 minutes.

There are two ways to make this honey soy chicken recipe – either in the oven or in a saucepan:

Oven – to cook these honey soy chicken wings in the oven, you simply just need to bake them 25-30 minutes in a preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius. Cooking the chicken wings in the oven will make them more crispy.

Saucepan – Add the chicken and any leftover marinade sauce into a saucepan. Add one cup of water and bring the contents to boil. Once boiled, let the chicken simmer in the sauce for 10-15 minutes. This method tastes just as good, but the chicken won’t be crispy.

Alternative ingredients:

Honey soy chicken wings use brown sugar in its marinade but you could easily use white granulated sugar as an alternative. You could also use other chicken pieces like chicken drumettes, thighs or drumsticks to make this dish – you’ll just need to adjust the amount of marinade to cover the chicken pieces.
